"There's an Elephant in the Room" - An Exploration of Conflict and How to Deal With It
Facilitator: Stacey Alderwick - Principal, Alderwick & Associates

The things that bring good organizations down are often the things that no one talks about. Our desire to keep from “ruffling feathers” or “upsetting the herd” can lead to major conflicts being pushed beneath the surface, where they wait until they explode and damage the organization.
This interactive workshop will look at the root causes of conflict, and at our reasons for avoiding it when dealing with it can help our organizations. Strategies for effectively identifying, surfacing, dealing with, and solving conflicts will be presented. The goal is not to create teams that seek out conflict, but to create those that acknowledge it will always exist, and that there’s no need to fear it.
About the Facilitator:

Principal of Alderwick & Associates, Stacey Alderwick has fifteen years of experience in organizational management and provides training, facilitation, consultation and conflict management services to clients in non-profit, government, academic and private sector settings. She is certified in Adult Education and Training, Advanced Interpersonal Mediation, Severe and Violent Crime Mediation and Victim-Offender Dialogue. In addition, Stacey has experience facilitating complex, multi-party conflict interventions and group processes based on the principles and concepts of inclusivity, empowerment and dialogue. She is also an internal consultant to the University of Toronto in the capacity of Co-ordinator of Diversity and Inclusivity Training.
"Loving the Spotlight": How to Be a Better Speaker and Presenter
Facilitator: Drew Dudley - Founder & Chief Catalyst, Nuance Leadership Inc.

Public speaking is, for many, one of the most uncomfortable (and in some cases terrifying) things that can be faced. However, like any task, you have the ability to improve if you adopt an effective, systematic approach to putting your presentations together and delivering them.
This presentation will take you through ten steps that will help you create and deliver more effective presentations, and do so with greater deal skill and confidence.
About the Facilitator:

Drew is the Founder & Chief Catalyst of Nuance Leadership, Inc., and helps individuals and organizations around the world increase their leadership capacity. He has presented over 500 workshops and presentations to over 100,000 people on three continents, delivered four “TED Talks” as part of the TEDx series of conferences, and recently had a presentation selected to appear on TED.com. Before starting Nuance, he created the largest university leadership development program in the country, and served as National Chair of Canada’s largest fundraiser for post-secondary students: “Shinerama: Students Fighting Cystic Fibrosis”.
He is shamelessly addicted to “The West Wing”, and has what his friends refer to as an embarrassingly large stuffed penguin collection for a grown man.

All of us are going to be faced with tough conversations in our lives. Topics we don't want to have to talk about; issues we don't want to raise; criticism we need to give but don't want to be hurtful. These conversations are even tougher when they're with someone we love. This workshop will provide you with tips on how to effectively start those conversations, and navigate through them in a way that makes sure you get positive results.
About the Facilitators:

Joyceln Lorito is a graduate of Wilfred Laurier University where she studied Contemporary Studies, English, Religion and Culture. She also did two years of Concurrent Education with Nipissing. She went on to Niagara College where she earned her TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certification and the Educational Assistant Special Needs Support diploma. She began her career in Residence Life in November 2010 here at Seneca College – where she is a Residence Life Coordinator at the Newnham Campus. You can find Joyceln playing on her Wii, reading or watching movies in her spare time.

David Norwood is a Seneca Alumni; he graduated Seneca College in Computer Engineering. During his time at Seneca, David worked as a Resident Advisor at the Newnham Residence. From that experience he decided to continue his career in Residence Life through becoming a Residence Life Coordinator at the Newnham Campus. David has a unique position and works mainly in Community Standards and Judicial Affairs at the Residence. David enjoys many sports, and likes to remain active.

Sarah Memme is a graduate of Trent University with a degree in Psychology and Geography. She continued on into her education through attending Queen’s University to attain a Bachelor of Education. Before working at Seneca College, Sarah worked in Italy teaching English as a Second Language. She then went on to work at Ryerson University as a Student Life Coordinator and Nipissing University as a Residence Coordinator. Sarah started at Seneca this past July 2011 as a Residence Life Coordinator. She enjoys travelling and yoga.

Chuck De Guzman graduated Seneca College in 2005 for Recreation Leisure Services, and again in 2006 for Recreation Facilities Management. Chuck is not only an alumni at Seneca, but has also been working in Seneca Residence Life for 5 years. He is the only Residence Life Coordinator for King Campus, but is frequently at Newnham Campus to work with the rest of the team. Chuck enjoys travelling (especially to Vegas), and is definitely a video game enthusiast.
Harry Potter and the Servant Leader
Facilitator: Mark Solomon
2:15 p.m. ONLY
It's key to understand that both leaders and those that they lead are people first. Servant Leadership Theory teaches us to care for ourselves and our people, in the process making both individuals and the team more effective. However, let's face it: theory isn't all that fun - so let's watch Harry Potter and the gang and see if they are true servant leaders.
About the Facilitator:
Mark Solomon is currently the Manager, Student Development of Seneca College. His main areas of expertise are student leadership, advocacy, Aboriginal Education and herding cats. A proud father of a four year old rock star. Also a delinquent geocacher.

The Seneca Leadership Program offers students a variety of workshops/activities/events they can attend. It allows students to build upon their leadership skills and form relationships all while earning credits toward different leadership certificates.
